July Adventures

 Dallin Dabbling in Self-Expression

The boy discovered that spaghetti sticks well to hair...

...and that applesauce can double as window paint.

Bamboo Rafts

Erin and her playmate, Vonn, made some bamboo rafts
based on an idea from another homeschooling blogger
whose blog is sadly no longer available (and I have no clue why).

We had to wait a day for the glue to dry,
and then it was sailing time in the irrigation water!

Nature Observations

Comet was very interested...

...in this visitor to our front yard:

This Western Screech Owl and its 2 friends gave us a late-night chase back and forth
across the street as we tried to listen carefully and locate them in the trees in the dark.
Kevin first heard them calling when he took out the garbage late one Monday night.

Reuse/Recycle Efforts

For Megan's Pioneer Trek, we cut down some hospital scrubs to make her pantaloons.
Not wanting the bottom halves of fabric to go to waste,
April made the leftover pieces into a new pair of shorts for Erin.
Add a little koala embellishment, and voila--new and fun playclothes!

Preschool Co-op Reunion

When Megan was 4-5, a group from our neighborhood held weekly preschool classes,
with each family taking a turn hosting and teaching a lesson.

Over the years, all the families moved from the neighborhood, except for us.
Recently the Dabels moved back to Logan, so we arranged a playdate for them, the Nielsens, and us.
The irony of the event was that most of the children didn't really remember each other.
Eight years is too long a time...

 Watermelon Monster

Forget carving pumpkins!
Erin made her own creation with a chunk of watermelon.
It was the "Watermelon Monster" and it could roar.
Then she ate it.
