Prickles
Remember this guy?
He's still alive and kicking and cute as ever.

Kumquat Mania
Professor Lahti, from AWC, wanted to share kumquats from her parents' tree, or at least wanted to get rid of them. Being an optimal forager, Kevin expressed interest and we ended up with a large paper grocery bag full of them! The fruit has a interesting flavor, with the peel being sweet and the inner part being sour. You can just pop a kumquat in your mouth, chew it up, and swallow it--that's Kevin's preferred way to eat them. April, on the other hand, didn't think we could eat an entire bag's worth before they spoiled so she made some delicious Kumquat-Orange Marmalade and some Gourmet Kumquat Cookies (but we didn't take photos of those). Kevin also made Orange-Kumquat Chicken that we all liked, but the children picked out all the kumquats (go figure). We're looking forward to next year's kumquat season!

 Germination Experimentation
Ian wants to grow some new trees, so he's been saving seeds, reading up about them on the internet, and trying to germinate them. Here is his mango tree start. He told me that we'll have a producing mango tree within 8 years!

More Scorpion Cupcakes!
Last year's field crew appreciated April's efforts to utilize scorpions in her baking, so when Mickey's birthday came around again this year, he got some specialty homemade cupcakes, complete with baked scorpions on top! The new field crew was a tad hesitant to try them, but most of them did.
