We checked on our shrike nest after another week and found the babies fledged and hopping about.
We took down the trail camera the next day because the babies had left the nest.
It had been a fun observation (and we think we may add trail camera to our
Christmas list since we have to return this one to the Game and Fish Dept.).
Dr. Phil was out again for a few days and drove around looking at shrike nests with us.
We stopped at a power substation along one of the roads with powerlines
and checked out the barbed wire fence surrounding it.
This is what we found:
| Can you see 3 FTHL heads above? |
We collected no fewer than 12 FTHL heads from the fence corner by the truck in the photo!
That shrike must have made an impression on his potential mates!
