Devout readers may remember Ian's account from two years ago, which was entertaining. We had even more fun this time. Wednesday night around 9:15, we loaded up the car, met with our friends the Huntzingers, and found a very mucky, muddy, marshy cattle pasture full of hormone-filled frogs.
At the start, Mom stepped into a deep hole, filled up her rubber boots, lost her balance and almost sent Dallin into a muddy bath. Dallin watched for a bit from his perch in the backpack, but was soon lulled to sleep by the incessant croaking (see video) and missed out on most of the fun.
The source of croaking is difficult to pinpoint since the frogs are small and well camouflaged, and the croaks are extremely loud. Plus, when you get close to them they stop making noise. We've found the best strategy is to wait quietly until they start croaking again, then approach slowly while looking carefully in clumps of grass.
Each of the children caught at least one frog--our friend Sam caught the most. Megan won the prize for staying completely dry (she had rubber boots and was careful not to fall).
To help inspire the rest of you to go on your own frog-catching adventure, watch this:
